Chromalloy lays off 100 workers at two Carson City plants
About 100 employees were let go from the Chromalloy plant in Carson City, the company confirmed on Tuesday.
Company spokesperson Cathy Gedvilas reports that the facility on Arrowhead Drive has experienced a decline in work due in part to reductions in military spending, and a flat economy in Europe and Asia affecting commercial aerospace.
"After a review of the business and industry environment, we announced a reduction of approximately 100 positions at the Arrowhead and Industrial Parkway facilities. The reduction included hourly and salaried positions from each functional area. Chromalloy is providing a severance benefit to those whose positions were affected," she said.
In September 2010 the company laid off 91 workers.
Chromalloy's Carson City facility specializes in the manufacture and repair of HPT/LPT blades and vanes, and has pioneered advances in high-temperature coating of jet aircraft engine and industrial engine components.
There are two Chromalloy facilities in Carson City. One is on Arrowhead Drive and the other is on Industrial Parkway. The Arrowhead Drive facility is the larger of the two. The company has 45 operations in 17 countries.
The larger, 160,000-square-foot facility, located at 36363 Arrowhead Drive, offers repair services and process capabilities to commercial as well as military customers, and has metallurgical laboratories and technical teams onsite for assistance, according to Chromalloy's website.
Chromalloy partners with its customers to deliver solutions that reduce the operating expense and extend the life of gas turbine engines, according to the company website. The company bills itself as one of the world's largest non–original equipment manufacturer that is provider of coatings, repairs and replacement parts for gas turbine engines. Customers include major airlines, military forces worldwide and industrial gas turbine engine owners.
