Carson City deputies make arrests for DUI hit and run, domestic battery and warrants

A 56-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and hit and run after allegedly crashing into a vehicle, flipping off the driver of the vehicle and then driving home, a sheriff's report states.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched at around 8 p.m. to the area of Pinion Pine and Windridge Drive for a report of a hit and run. The officers were advised the reporting party had followed the suspect vehicle after being hit.

Deputies arrived and made contact with the reporting party (RP) who stated he was stopped at a stop sign when a vehicle crashed into his left front side, then reversed and took off on Northridge. The RP stated he attempted to follow the vehicle, and honked to get his attention, but that the driver instead flipped him off, wouldn't stop and attempted to lose him, the report states.

The victim driver stated he followed the vehicle to the 2600 block of Pinion Pine Drive, and stated the vehicle pulled into the garage and exited his vehicle, faced him and then closed the garage door.

A deputy made contact with the suspect at the residence who a first stated he didn't know what they were talking about and then stated that he hit something and came home, the report states. The suspect said he didn't recall what he hit, the report states.

The deputy asked for his insurance information. As they continued to talk, the officer could smell and odor of alcohol coming from his person. He took deputies to the garage where they located the vehicle that had damage to the front, consistent with damage to the RP's vehicle, the arrest report states.

Without being asked, he stated he was involved in a hit and run and had been drinking. He agreed to submit to standardized field sobriety tests. Based on the RP identifying the man as the driver of the vehicle that hit him and the driver's admission, he was arrested.

He told officers he drank between from 5 to 8 beers and then drove home. He provided a voluntary preliminary breath test of .226. At jail he agreed to an evidentiary blood draw. Bail: $1,759.

In other bookings:
— A 51-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 10:59 p.m. in the 400 block of North Saliman for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and following too closely.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the scene to a vehicle accident and met with the reporting party who stated she was traveling south on Saliman and rear ended the vehicle stopped at Saliman and Robinson.

The deputy observed the woman had a difficult time standing and speaking. A deputy asked the woman if she had consumed any alcoholic beverage. The woman stated a glass of wine with dinner. The officer attempted to ask the woman questions, but she interrupted.

She was asked if she would participate in field sobriety tests. She refused. She was given another opportunity to take the tests and she agreed. The woman showed signs of impairment, refused a preliminary breath test, became extremely uncooperative and and was subsequently arrested for suspicion of DUI and following too close that resulted in the accident. At jail she provided evidentiary breath tests of .180 and .164. Bail: $1,439.

— A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 8:39 p.m. in the 200 block of Fleischmann Way for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area regarding a domestic battery. Deputies spoke with a male and female. The victim stated the suspect and she began arguing, she got into his face, both spit at each other and he hit her.

The man stated he hit the woman in the face out of a reaction of being spat on, the arrest report states. The victim had a laceration on the left side of her mouth, the report states. The man was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.

— A 22-year-old Dayton man, in custody at Carson City Jail on a separate charge, was served for on an outstanding gross misdemeanor warrant on Monday issued out of Lyon County District Court.

— A 36-year-old Fernley man and an inmate preparing for release at Carson City Jail was rebooked for a misdemeanor violation of suspended sentence warrant issued Jan. 29, 2019 out of Carson City justice Court. Bail: $1,000.

— A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested int he area of Carson and Long streets for a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant issued June 13, 2019 out of Carson City Municipal Court. According to the arrest report, a sheriff's deputy made a traffic stop after observing the driver not coming to a complete stop at a red light when turning at the intersection. The driver told deputies he didn't realize he had run the stop light and apologized for doing so. A records check showed he had a day service misdemeanor warrant issued June 13 for failure to appear on a traffic violation. Bail: $302.

— A 22-year-old Carson City an was arrested early Tuesday morning, just after midnight, in the area of Arrowhead and Centennial Park for a misdemeanor warrant issued out of Pershing County. Bail: $1,220.

On Saturday, April 20, Carson City Community Gardeners and the UNR Extension Master Gardeners came together to get the Community Garden ready for the growing season. For two hours they removed weeds, spread mulch and prepped their garden beds for the season.

Douglas County officials have announced that construction will begin soon on the first phase of the Muller Parkway Project. The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in Minden and Gardnerville, offering an alternative route to the main U.S. Route 395 through town. The decision comes as the County moves to fill its requirement to construct 2.4 miles of two-lane road by 2025.
