Here are all the upcoming events in the community for Carson City School District students and families, hosted by the district or community organizations.
Teen Art Fusion offers open studio and connection opportunities for students interested in visual art after school on minimum days (every second and fourth Wednesday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at 801 North Roop Street near the Carson City Aquatics Center. Maggie M's Beginning Art Class is offering classes for both adults and teens every Wednesday from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. (adults) and from 3:00-4:30 p.m. (middle and high school-age students) in the Drawing Studio at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 West King Street in Carson City. The College Savings Division within the Nevada Treasury is proud to announce its 4th annual ”What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up” Art Contest. The contest encourages Nevada students in Pre-K through 12th grades to use their artistic skills and creativity to produce a work of art demonstrating what they’d like their future career to be, all while getting them and their families excited about post-secondary education. Submissions will be open from August 12 until October 13. Three winners from each grade level will receive a $1,000, $500 or $250 prize deposited into a Future Path 529 college savings account. The University of Nevada, Reno College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources in partnership with 4-H invites youth and families to join the Carson Cluckers Poultry Club Tuesday, Sept. 17, 6-8 p.m. and youth ages 5-19 to Garden Club Meet & Greet Thursday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. Both meetings will be held at 727 Fairview Drive, Suite F, in Carson City. Sierra Inline Hockey League at the Marv Teixeira Pavillion at Mills Park is offering Roller Hockey Programs where youth can learn to play and compete in games and scrimmages weekly. See attached flyer in English and Spanish for registration information.
The Carson High School Volleyball Team will host their Fourth Annual Volleyball Clinic for youth in grades 3rd through 8th, Saturday, October 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carson High Gymnasium. Registration deadline is Sept. 25. Cost: $40. See attached flyer for more information.
The Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada are hosting after-school and evening meetings at several schools in Carson City throughout the month of September. Youth will be able to earn badges related to STEM, outdoors, entrepreneurship and life skills while making new friends. The Carson City Community Center will host a Block Party & Stage Show, Saturday, September 21, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Bob Boldrick Theater. The event will be held at 851 East William Street in Carson City. The Block Party will begin at 11 a.m. and will feature games, activities, backstage tours, food, art and other goodies. Beginning at 2 p.m., the Community Center invites community members to gather inside the Bob Boldrick Theater, at no cost, for Live Music, Short Performances and Theatre Groups. Bowling Alleys in Carson City invite youth, ages 3-17, to sign up for the Carson Country United States Bowling Congress 2024-2025 Youth Bowling League. They offer 2-3 games per week depending on skill level and optional tournaments during the season. Bowlers also earn college scholarships. Registration and weekly fees vary by location.
