Carson City arrests: Oil trail left from hit and run crash leads to arrest

A 23-year-old man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of gross misdemeanor destruction of property, hit and run causing property damage and DUI after allegedly crashing into a light pole and leaving the scene.

According to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report, the crash happened in the area of College Parkway and Sherman Lane behind a gas station.

According to witnesses the vehicle struck a city light pole and the left the scene. Carson City sheriff's deputies began to investigate, took photos of the damage and saw that the vehicle had left a fresh oil trail from the scene that led to a residence on Sherman Lane.

Officers knocked on the door and made contact with a man, who stated he had just been in an accident, and that when he got home he started drinking and was upset about what happened, the booking report states. The man was asked if deputies could see the vehicle. He stated yes and showed officers his vehicle in the garage with major front-end damage and air bag deployment.

The deputy observed the man to have red watery eyes, slurred speech, was swaying and had an odor of alcohol coming from his person. A deputy conducted a field sobriety test, in which the man showed signs of impairment, the report states. He provided a preliminary breath test of .213 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail he agreed to an evidentiary blood draw. Bail: $3,774.

In other arrests:
— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 11:10 p.m. for suspicion gross misdemeanor destruction of property, hit and run causing property damage and DUI.

According to the CCSO booking report, deputies were dispatched to the 3600 block of North Carson Street for a report of a hit and run. A reporting party advised they were hit by the suspect on I-580 and that the driver fled. While enroute, dispatch advised the suspected pickup had left the roadway and crashed through a fence on Plantation Drive.

Officers responded and met with the driver of the pickup. The man had extremely red watery eyes, slurred speech, a "very noticeable" sway, and an odor of alcohol coming from his person, according to the arrest report.

Deputies conducted field sobriety tests on the driver, who showed signs of impairment. He provided a preliminary breath test of .223 and was arrested. Bail: $3,774.

— A 59-year-old Sacramento man was arrested Sunday in the area of North Carson and Arrowhead Drive for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, DUI, failure to maintain a lane and speeding over 21 mph. Mike Joseph Goodie was taken into custody at 5:33 a.m.

According to the booking report, a deputy observed a vehicle speeding north on North Carson Street near East Long Street in a 25 mph zone. The deputy got behind the driver, who then sped to 50 miles per hour and traveled between the number 1 and 2 lanes. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver. The driver stated he didn't have registration or insurance in his vehicle, the report states.

During the investigation, a deputy observed the driver exhibited behavior associated with being under the influence of a substance. The driver agreed to field sobriety tests, where he showed signs of being under the influence of some type of substance. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI drugs. During a vehicle inventory officers located a baggie of a white crystalline substance under the center arm rest of the front seat. Bail: $3,881.

— A 27-year-old Rancho Cordova, Calf., woman was arrested Sunday for suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor offense. Bail: $1,137.

— A 49-year-old man was arrested Saturday, 10:45 p.m. for suspicion of obstructing. Bail: $412.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office K9s take 1st in Narcotics Detection and finish 2nd team overall at the 3rd Annual Regional K9 Unit Challenge.

On Oct. 19 nearly 40 K9 teams from 13 agencies competed in four events centered around the primary duties they perform in the field. Carson K9s controlled the narcotics detection portion, finishing 1st, 2nd, and 4th, while Washoe K9 took 1st and 2nd in apprehension, and Lyon K9 took 1st in agility.

The excitement was palpable as Carson Creepy 2024 crept into the Brewery Arts Center's Performance Hall on Saturday, showcasing the immense talent and creativity of Northern Nevada's local filmmakers.
