Douglas sheriff's team arrests suspect in elder scam, victim gave group $68,000
A man was arrested for suspicion of conspiracy, extortion and exploitation of an elderly person following an elder scam investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office Street Enforcement Team on Monday conducted an investigation into the elder scam where the suspect is alleged to be part of a group who used threats to intimidate the victim into giving them approximately $68,000, according to DCSO in a news release.
DCSET made contact with one of the suspects who drove to the victim's residence to pick up more money, the release states. DCSET was able to arrest Minglong Chen for alleged conspiracy, extortion, and exploitation of the elderly/vulnerable person. Chen is being held on $100,000.00 bail and an immigration hold (ICE hold).
This investigation is still ongoing.
