Lake Tahoe planners to host Highway 50 revitalization plan open house
STATELINE — Following the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s Governing Board decision last year to approve the U.S. 50 South Shore Community Revitalization Plan, implementation is underway.
TRPA is inviting the public to an open house to give input on the initial stages of the Highway 50, Main Street Management Plan. The event will be held 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel Tallac Room.
The resort is located at 4130 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe, Calif. People are invited to drop in any time during the two-hour open house.
The event will consist of a series of informational stations where residents can give input on the planning stages of this transformational project. TRPA and the Tahoe Transportation District are seeking comments as different options for the design of the corridor come into focus.
With the relocation of U.S. Highway 50 behind the casino core, residents and visitors will have a safer and more usable main street. The alignment will run from Pioneer Trail to Lake Parkway. This open house is the second of four that TRPA will host over the coming months.
Community members are encouraged to provide input on draft streetscape options, including bike lanes, pedestrian space, transit, parking, and more to create a safer, more vibrant and visually appealing corridor through South Lake Tahoe.
“This project is so much more than a road realignment,” said Joanne S. Marchetta, executive director of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. “It will continue the transformation of the south shore and will improve our sense of place as a community.
The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency leads the cooperative effort to preserve, restore, and enhance the unique natural and human environment of the Lake Tahoe Region, while improving local communities, and people’s interactions with our irreplaceable environment.
