Send a Scout to Camp Car Show revs up excitement in Carson City
Classic cars of all makes and models filled Fuji Park Saturday during the sixth annual Send a Scout to Camp Car Show in Carson City.
Vintage cars and trucks lined up alongside each other while participants strolled around the park and soaked in the warm summer sun.
The event is a fundraiser to help send the Boy Scouts of America Troop 33 to camps from all over the globe.
“It provides an opportunity for them that they don’t have anywhere else,” Committee Chairman John Hefner said. “This becomes a huge fundraiser because every dime of it goes back to the boys to help with their dues. It’s a huge relief for a lot of parents, but this event allows them the opportunity to do that.”
Troop 33 recently came back from a pair of trips to Canada and New Mexico over the summer to help build camaraderie within the group through a series of exercise routines, according to Hefner.
“It was great to see,” he said. “They went canoeing up in Canada for about 10 days. … Then they went hiking almost six miles a day in Mexico so it helps them build those qualities within each other.”
Along with classic cars, live auctions, vendors and participant trophy presentations kept the show jam-packed with excitement.
The car show ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and refreshments were served throughout the event.
