Carson City Fire Department assists with fighting 'Berry Fire' wildfire near Washoe Lake, forward progress stopped
UPDATE 5:42PM: Old Highway 395 is now open in both directions after a wildfire closed the highway from Eastlake to Bellevue, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

UPDATE: 5:20PM: Forward progress stopped on Washoe Valley "Berry Fire."
The 8-acre fire is now 30 percent contained according to Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District.
Evacuations are still in place for remaining addresses.
Crews will remain on site overnight "mopping up." Some Carson City Fire Department crews are being released from the scene. The cause is under investigation.

5:00PM: Good progress on the Berry Fire is reported by Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. Firefighters are working to secure utilities. The evacuation area has been reduced to 8 addresses. The Galena Evacuation Center is now closed.
Old US 395 between Bellevue and Eastlake Drive closed for approximately 1 hour.
Washoe Valley outages have yet to be fixed. Original estimated time of restoration was 5:30PM, however the fire could prolong the restoration.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

4:35PM: Anyone with horse trailers or livestock trailers are no longer being asked for assistance. Nevada Highway Patrol thanks those who were willing to help, and asks that everyone keep far away from the area so emergency services can use their resources for the fire.

4:21PM: Eight acres have now burned North of Carson City in Washoe Valley near Service Berry Lane. Multiple structures are threatened. Truckee Meadow Fire is in command. Nevada Division of Forestry, US Forest Service, and Reno, Sparks, and Carson City resources on scene. Aerial support and ground crews are working to contain it.

4:05PM: According to Washoe Sheriff's Office, the fire continues to burn south of Franktown Rd. and west of Old 395. Carson City Sheriff's Office, Washoe County Animal Services, and the Washoe Sheriff's Office Search & Rescue volunteers are assisting with evacuations.

4:00PM: The firefighters on scene report the fire has burned seven-acres so far, and is being called the Berry Fire. It's currently burning along old Highway 395, near Service Berry Lane in Washoe Valley.

3:55PM: According to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, evacuations are underway from High Camp Court off Franktown to Old 395, and east to List Country Road. The evacuation center is in Galena High School's small gym.

3:50PM: NV Energy is reporting outages in the area of the Washoe Valley fire near Bellevue and East Lake Boulevard. They outages are affecting 27 customers, due to damage to NV Energy Equipment in two locations, both in the area of the fire.
The Washoe Sheriff's Department is asking for people to avoid the area so it's clear for emergency personnel.

3:45PM: Carson City Fire Department was called Friday afternoon as backup mutual aid for a wildfire that is burning out of control north of Carson City on the west side of the highway near homes in the area of Old 395 and East Lake on the west side of the road near Washoe Lake in Washoe County. Evacuations are underway.
Old U.S. 395 is closed between Bellevue and East Lake Boulevard in Washoe Valley.
Truckee Meadows Fire on site in Washoe Valley area, 5 acre bush fire, slow spread, heavy fuel, structures threatened.
The fire is burning near I-580 and Old 395 near the Franktown Road area, according to dispatch. Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon was told the fire was moving at a rapid clip and that structures are threatened.
Truckee Meadows Fire Protection is the lead agency, which has requested other fire units to the area.
Northbound Old 395 at the I-580 overpass has been closed to traffic, according to dispatch.
