Series of thunderstorms move into Carson Valley, Carson City and Tahoe region
A series of strong thunderstorms with lightning strikes, gusty winds and rain began to move into the Carson City and Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe areas late Tuesday afternoon.
The National Weather Services advises that those who are outdoors during these storms should be prepared to seek shelter from gusty outflow winds, heavy rain, hail and dangerous lightning.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for Douglas County until 5:15 p.m. Doppler radar earlier indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. The storms are expected to stick around through Tuesday evening, according to the weather service.
Radar rain estimates of 1-1.5 inches per hour in steep terrain may lead to water running across portions of Highway 395 between Gardnerville and Holbrook Junction, US Highway 208.
The weather service advises rock and debris flows are possible. Drivers should be alert and avoid travel during these storms. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying spots.
Thunderstorms are possible Wednesday with dry conditions returning Thursday and into the weekend.
