High risk offenders checked, 8 arrested in four county 'operation back to school' sweep
Seven high risk criminal offenders on parole or probation, and an absconder wanted on a warrant were arrested for violating conditions of their supervision in a four county, multi-agency law enforcement sweep called Operation Back to School, a lieutenant with Nevada Parole and Probation said Tuesday.
Conducted in the Carson City, Douglas, Washoe and Lyon county areas, Operation Back to School was designed to perform personal contacts on high risk offenders under the supervision of the Division of Parole and Probation, said Lt. Jorge Pierrott.
"This multi-agency collaboration was a great success," said Lt. Pierrott. “Operation Back to School allowed for increased offender supervision, sharing of resources and intelligence and serves as an example of how state and local law enforcement agencies work together to increase community safety in Northern Nevada."
Over the course of one and a half days, Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8, 2015, a total of 15 officers from the Carson City Division of Parole and Probation office, Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the Carson City Department of Alternative Sentencing performed home and employment contacts with these high risk offenders. The operation was made possible through funding provided by a Justice Assistance Grant to support the Division of Parole and Probation.
As a result of Operation Back to School, seven offenders were arrested for violating conditions of their supervision. An offender who absconded from supervision was located by utilizing intelligence obtained through the Division of Parole and Probation’s investigation and resources employed by Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputies. Additionally, officers located an individual who had an active warrant out of the Carson City Justice Court and took him into custody.
Officers performed 52 home contacts, one employment contact and drug tested 20 offenders. In addition to meeting with offenders, officers performed 43 personal contacts with members of the community to verify offender compliance.
Pierrott praised the Carson City Department of Alternative Sentencing and the Carson City Sheriff's Office for assigning officers and deputies to the weekend operation.
"They provided these additional officers needed to make it a success," he said.
