A nationally recognized clinical and forensic psychologist whose work has focused on, among other things, violence risk assessment and management among at risk youth will address juvenile and youth service officers in Carson City this Thursday and Friday.

Multiple law enforcement agencies throughout the state carried out sex offender compliance checks of 430 individuals in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, Churchill and portions of of Washoe County last week, the largest collaborative effort of its kind for sex offender checks, according to Nevada Parole and Probation.

A recent check of 186 sex offenders in Lyon County and Fallon resulted in one arrest and 26 people found to not be in compliance with registration requirements, the Nevada Department of Public Safety and Parole and Probation announced Tuesday.

The multi-agency collaborative effort, called "Operation Vigilance" was done to verify sex offender registration compliance and was conducted in Dayton, Silver Springs, Yerington, Fernley, Stagecoach and Fallon.

Operation Safer Streets, a multi-agency collaborative effort to perform personal contacts on high risk offenders under the supervision of the Division of Parole and Probation, was conducted in the Carson City, Douglas, Washoe and Lyon County areas.

Caroline Gabica slid activated hand warmers into her boots, picked up a bag of footballs and followed the coach out onto the field during the playoff game between Carson and Reed high schools in November. Soon Gabica, manager for the Carson High School Senators football team, was back on the sidelines, taping up the injured fingers of a player who got tangled up with another player’s face mask.

A joint law enforcement operation to check on the status of sex offenders in Carson City, Lyon and Douglas counties was conducted the last week of October that resulted in 96 offender personal contacts and a total of 122 community personal contacts, authorities said.

Seven high risk criminal offenders on parole or probation, and an absconder wanted on a warrant were arrested for violating conditions of their supervision in a four county, multi-agency law enforcement sweep called Operation Back to School, a lieutenant with Nevada Parole and Probation said Tuesday.

Law enforcement officers from around the region participated in a sex offender sweep late last week known as Operation Vigilance, a multi-agency collaborative effort to verify sex offender registration compliance around Carson City.

The joint effort resulted in 226 sex offender compliance checks. As a result of Operation Vigilance, 2 supervised offenders were arrested for violating their parole or probation terms and conditions, said Lt. Jorge Pierrott of Nevada Parole and Probation Northern Command in Carson City.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety Division of Parole and Probation officers in partnership with the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Apprehension Task Force; Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents; and officers from the Regional Gang Unit conducted “Operation Safer Streets” on Wednesday, Nov. 19, and Saturday, Nov. 22, around the Reno and Sparks area.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office received an early Christmas present after being notified it has received national "Outstanding Citizen Participation” recognition for its 2012 National Night Out crime, drug and violence special prevention event held in August.

National Night Out heightens crime and drug prevention awareness, community safety and, as in the case of Carson City, strengthens police-community partnerships. This award is the latest in the list of recognitions Carson City Sheriff’s Office received for the 2010 event including Congressional Awards from Congressman Dean Heller and a Letter of Commendation from Senator John Ensign.
