Douglas County Sheriff's Office: Minden glider pilot killed in crash in Pine Nut Mountains
A 74-year-old Minden pilot died Sunday in a power glider crash eight miles east of the Minden Tahoe Airport in the Pine Nut Mountain Range, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Joseph N. Lowenhardt was found deceased in the wreckage and was the only occupant of the aircraft, said Capt. Dan Coverley of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
At approximately 2:50 p.m. the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Nevada Highway Patrol of an aircraft ELT notification. The Nevada Civil Air Patrol, assisted by the U.S. Air Force, located the crashed glider.
Douglas County Sheriff’s Office along with the East Fork Fire Protection District found the crashed AMS Carat Model A Power Glider.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by the FAA.
