NHP: Northern Nevada DUI strike team nets 24 arrests
The Nevada Highway Patrol, Reno Police Department, and Sparks Police Department combined resources July 26 through 28, 2019, to conduct regional DUI enforcement. Over the course of two days, the multi-agency Northern Nevada DUI Strike Team patrolled in discreetly-marked ‘ghost’ vehicles during the hours of increased impaired driving rates in an effort to detect and apprehend impaired drivers.
Formed to reduce traffic fatalities and impaired driving, the Strike Team consists of skilled DUI investigators and drug recognition experts. During this second Strike Team enforcement operation, a total of 205 traffic stops were made and 24 individuals were arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.
While the Strike Team patrolled, there were zero property, injury, or fatal crashes that occurred.
According to the Office of Traffic Safety, 30-35 percent of traffic-related deaths in Nevada involve an impaired driver. Being a responsible driver is simple: if you are drinking, do not drive. Designate a sober driver, plan to take public transportation or a ride-share service. If a friend or family member is impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to get home safely.
The Nevada Highway Patrol, along with our regional partners, remains dedicated to keeping the public safe by finding, investigating, and apprehending persons driving impaired on Nevada’s highways. Additional Strike Team enforcement operations are planned for the future.
