Reno man identified in Friday's fatal motorcycle crash in Carson City
A 59-year-old Reno man has been identified as the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash that happened Friday morning on I-580 in Carson City.
Jonathan Treen Proehl died after he was ejected from a silver BMW motorcycle that struck the rear end of a white 2002 Mercedes SUV, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
A preliminary investigation indicates the Mercedes SUV was traveling southbound in the right lane of I-580 approaching Fairview Drive and was slowed by traffic congestion.
The motorcycle was traveling at highway speeds approaching the slower moving traffic, according to NHP. The rider of the motorcycle, Proehl, may have become distracted causing the motorcycle to strike the left rear of the Mercedes SUV, according to NHP. The crash happened at around 9 a.m.
Mr. Proehl succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene a short time later. The driver of the Mercedes SUV received minor injuries and was treated on scene.
Trooper Karen Garretson of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Multi-disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T.) is investigating this crash.
