Two of three prisoners who died in Ely State Prison altercation identified
Two of the three offenders killed in Tuesday’s altercation at Ely State Prison have been identified by Nevada Department of Corrections. The third name is being withheld pending notification of family.
The inmates identified are Zackaria Luz, No.1061930, and Connor Brown, No. 1244055. Luz, 42, was serving seven to18 years for racketeering. He came to the NDOC on Oct. 5, 2023, and was sentenced out of Clark County.
Brown, 22, was serving seven to 20 years for robbery with the use of a deadly weapon, with a deadly weapon enhancement. He came to the NDOC on May 13, 2021, and was sentenced out of Washoe County.
No officers were injured. Nine offenders were transported for treatment.
The investigation remains active. Ely State Prison remains on lockdown as of Wednesday afternoon.
