COVID-19 positivity rate increases 78 percent in Douglas County this week, Lyon County reports highest percent increase of active cases

On Thursday, Carson City Health and Human Services issued their weekly COVID-19 report, which tracks data such as test positivity rates, active cases, recoveries, and more within the four quad-counties of Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County, and Storey County.

Last week, there were 99 new cases throughout the quad counties, which rose this week to 162, a 63 percent overall increase.

Recoveries also increased as well, from 57 recoveries last week to 74 recoveries this week.

Active cases throughout the quad counties increased by 39 percent, from 226 last week to 314 this week.

Lyon County is currently leading in the amount of active cases with 140, a 52 percent increase from last week when the number was at 92. Carson City and Douglas County are tied for second with a 30 percent increase each; Carson City had 76 active cases last week, and 99 cases this week, which Douglas County had 57 active cases last week, and 74 active cases this week.

Storey County, which has remained relatively low throughout the pandemic, only had one active case last week, and continues to only have one active case this week as well.

Test positivity rate increased the most in Douglas County, with a 77 percent increase from last week. Last week, the test positivity rate was 6.2 percent, while this week it was 11 percent.

Carson City had the second highest test positivity rate increase at 49 percent, from a 7.7 percent positivity rate last week to an 11.5 percent test positivity rate this week.

Lyon County only had a slight increase of test positivity, from 10.2 percent to 11.6 percent, an overall 14 percent increase.

Douglas County had a 78 percent increase in new cases, with Lyon County close behind with a 71 percent increase in new cases.

Last week, Douglas County had 27 new cases during the week, and this week there were 48.

In Lyon County last week there were 35 new cases, and this week there were 60.

In Carson City there was a 38 percent increase in new cases, from 37 new cases last week to 51 new cases this week.

Storey County increased from 0 cases last week to 3 cases this week.

COVID-19 Vaccination Update

According to CCHHS, as of July 28, 2021, approximately 169,247 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered by Quad-County providers. CCHHS has administered 68,998 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

Approximately 73,729 Quad-County residents have completed vaccination (received both doses of a 2-dose series vaccine such as Pfizer or Moderna or received the single dose Janssen vaccine) and 80,883 have initiated it (received the first dose of a 2-dose series such as Pfizer or Moderna).

In Carson City, 28,830 residents have been completely vaccinated and 31,479 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 57.63 percent of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

In Douglas County, 22,572 residents have been completely vaccinated and 24,337 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 51.16 percent of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

In Lyon County, 21,676 residents have been completely vaccinated and 24,341 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 43.24 percent of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

In Storey County, 651 residents have been completely vaccinated and 726 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 15.91 percent of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

Drive-Thru COVID-19 Testing For Those With Symptoms Or Who Have Been Exposed

CCHHS will be hosting COVID-19 testing events throughout the Quad-County Region. These events are for those who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or who were exposed to someone with COVID-19. Tests are available on a first come, first serve basis; no appointments or pre-registration needed.

CCHHS is resuming testing at their building in Cason City. Testing is for those who are experiencing symptoms and will take place one day a week, by appointment only.

Talent Show Carson's Got Talent Meals On Wheels Fundraiser

Carson’s Got Talent, an evening extravaganza of regional talent, is holding auditions for the April 14 show at Forever Dance, 1851 S. Roop Street in Carson City on Sunday Feb. 11. Check in is at 9 a.m. Auditions begin at 10 a.m. A $500 cash prize will be awarded to the first place performing act, $250 for second place and $100 for third.
