What Works: Just get it done!
My column is late this week. And, you know what? It’s OK. It’s OK because done is better than not at all. It’s OK because I can get out of my head long enough to forgive myself for how busy I have been. And, guess what else? It’s OK for you to just get things done too.
Now, kids and teens (if there are any reading). I’m not talking about school assignments. Those have a firm deadline.
I’m talking about when life does its life thing and you have a goal. That goal is big. That goal is precious to you. AND your head won’t stop telling you that it has to be done a certain way. It’s at that moment I tell my chattering brain “thank you for sharing” and I take action toward my goal.
Why thank you for sharing?
There’s a Buddhist meditation technique called noting. I find this very inspiring. When meditating, even the most zen of the monks have thoughts that come in from time to time. They simply say to themselves “thought” and move on.
When we do the same things with our brains, those thoughts feel recognized. Sometimes they let go all together. Or maybe they just go quiet for a awhile. Regardless, that gives us a precious window to Just Do It – as Nike would say.
Just get it done!
I am living this right now. In fact, I had a wild week! I am doing transformational business strategy and mindset coaching for a new high-end client program. This program is amazing. It also took a month to get trained up. On Tuesday, I took my first solo client with them. It’s great work. And, with my existing clients and consulting contracts, it took some shifting around.
It’s OK to shift around, just don’t lose your favorite projects in the reorganization.
I didn’t lose sight of my column. I even did a video on decision making on Monday. Dropping it wasn’t an option, even when Monday turned into Tuesday and then morphed into Wednesday. Now its Thursday and I was left with a question. Is it worth writing it now?
How many times has something gotten lost in the shuffle and you have asked yourself, “should I just drop it?”
If you love it, if it serves you and others, that answer is a resounding no. Pick it up. Forgive yourself for dropping it. Dust it off and take action.
What have you dropped that you want to get back to? The floor is yours, Carson City.
