Evacuations lifted for Topaz Ranch Estates and Topaz Lake; warning lifted for Smith Valley

Evacuations for the Topaz Ranch Estates and Topaz Lake are lifted as of 2 p.m. on Sunday. Residents are allowed to return to their homes, according to Douglas County officials in a news release. Non-mandatory evacuations remain in place for the Holbrook Junction/Highlands area and Spring Valley areas.

Earlier, Lyon County announced that it has rescinded its warning to evacuate in the Smith Valley area.

Road closure:
State Route 208 and Highway 395 to the California/Nevada Stateline south we be open at 12:30 pm today. Highway 395 north from State Route 208 to the current closure north of Leviathan Mine Road will remain closed due to Nevada Energy working around the clock to restore power poles and lines for service coupled with Fire personnel and equipment still working hard in this area.

Douglas County anticipates Highway 395 both north and south to be completely open Monday at 6 a.m. This is pending changes in weather or fire conditions, according to a news release.

The U.S. Marshals Service, assisted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, arrested an El Salvador man Wednesday in Carson City who was wanted for allegedly being part of a terrorist organization.

Rene Antonio “Scrapy” Hernandez-Mejia, a Salvadorian national, was arrested in Carson City. According to Interpol, they issued a Red Notice indicating Hernandez-Mejia was wanted out of El Salvador for being part of a terrorist organization, according to a U.S. Marshals news release.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Firefighter Stairclimb is the world's largest on-air stair climb competition and annual fundraiser held at the tallest building in town, the Columbia Center in Seattle, Washington.

Firefighters from both East Fork Fire District in Douglas County and Carson City are participating in the fundraiser, and will be raising money for the fundraiser until the Stairclimb in March.

UPDATE Thursday: A band of heavier snow showers will move across western Nevada this afternoon. Areas from Reno to Fernley to Fallon and south to Carson City, Virginia City, and Yerington have the best chances of seeing a quick light accumulation. This includes Interstate 80 east of Reno, Highway 580 in Washoe Valley, and Highway 50 east of Carson City to Fallon. Accumulations will range from a dusting up to a quick half inch in these areas. We can't rule out spots of near one inch snowfall mainly on non-paved surfaces.

A vehicle pursuit that began in Washoe County ended on the I-580 freeway near Arrowhead in Carson City on Wednesday morning in which two people were taken into custody.

A vehicle crash early Tuesday evening near Highway 50 and Sunrise Drive in East Carson City is causing traffic delays. The crash was reported at around 5:20 p.m. No serious injuries are being reported. Traffic is being diverted around the incident.

Carson City's Bleu Cafe closed their restaurant doors in November to focus on catering and parties, but after months of public outcry from Bleu Cafe enthusiasts, Chef Roberta Davies has opened the restaurant and bar for lunch, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
