Threat of heavy rain prompts Flash Flood Watch for Carson City, surrounding counties
With threats of heavy rain and thunderstorms Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch for Carson City and surrounding counties. Douglas County is already under a flash flood warning.
Deep moisture and storm redevelopment over terrain will contribute to an increased risk of localized heavy rainfall and flooding within the watch area, forecasters said.
Excessive runoff from thunderstorms may result in flooding of burn scars, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations, the weather service advises. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks with low-water roads and crossings being flooded.
The Flood Watch areas includes the greater Reno, Carson City and Carson Valley area of Douglas County as well as Storey County, southern Lyon and Mineral counties. It runs until 8 p.m.
Residents are advised to monitor forecasts here and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
