NHP traffic stop leads to arrests, discovery of 144 pounds of meth, 135 pounds of cocaine
A traffic stop for speeding last week led Nevada Highway Patrol troopers to the discovery of 135 pounds of cocaine and 144 pounds of methamphetamine inside the commercial vehicle and the arrests of two for drug trafficking.
The large drug bust happened Thursday, July 19 on US93 in White Pine County where a commercial motor vehicle was stopped just after 9 p.m. for speeding, said NHP Trooper Matthew McLaughlin. During the stop, an NHP trooper identified signs of criminal activity.
The trooper applied for, and was granted, a search warrant for the vehicle through the Ely Justice Court. During the search, NHP troopers located the 135.36 pounds of cocaine and 144.27 pounds of methamphetamine in the sleeper berth of the vehicle, said McLaughlin.
Haseeb Ur Rehma Malik, 29, was arrested for speeding and trafficking of a schedule I controlled substance, while Abdul Majid, 28, was arrested for trafficking of a schedule I controlled substance.
