Minden-Tahoe Airport hosts 'Wings and Wheels' open house

Help us celebrate National Aviation Week at Minden-Tahoe Airport Discovery Day, Wings & Wheels event. Officials at the Minden-Tahoe Airport are pleased to announce an exciting open house event on Saturday, August 24, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public, offering a day of fun for all ages. The airport is located at 1146 Airport Rd, Minden.

Airport Discovery Day will feature a variety of activities and experiences for attendees to enjoy. The day will kick off with a delicious pancake breakfast, perfect for fueling up before exploring the airport's facilities and learning about aviation. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet pilots and learn about their experiences in the sky.

Families will love the dedicated kids’ corner, where children can participate in aviation-themed activities and games. And don't forget to visit and marvel at the colorful hot air balloon display.

But that's not all - Legacy Airbase will be providing an unforgettable experience for five lucky veterans. Two veterans will have the opportunity to take flight in a T6 aircraft, while three others will soar through the sky in a Stearman. One of whom just turned 100 years old and has dreamed of flying again since he was a pilot in the war.

"We are thrilled to host this open house event at Minden-Tahoe Airport," said Heather MacDonnell, Minden-Tahoe Airport Manager. "It's a great opportunity for our community to come together and learn about aviation while enjoying a day filled with fun activities. We are honored to partner with Legacy Airbase and take this opportunity to celebrate a few of our nations heroes.”

In addition to all these exciting experiences, there will also be static displays showcasing various aircraft on the ground, including Reno National Air Guard’s C-130 and a car show by the Douglas Dukes. The Douglas Dukes are a loose-knit group of "car guys" from Douglas County and the Carson Valley. The group’s automotive interests range from antique brass-era cars to hot rods, to sleek customs, to muscle cars, to dune buggies, to dragsters, to 300+ MPH land speed racing streamliners. The Douglas Dukes are proud to support the Minden-Tahoe Airport's Open House with a few of its members' cars. Attendees can get up close and personal with these impressive machines and learn more about them from knowledgeable pilots and drivers.

Mark your calendars and don't miss this fantastic opportunity!
