Carson City sheriff’s log: Woman jailed after allegedly assaulting ex-boyfriend

A 22-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the 1600 bock of East Long for a report of domestic battery. A deputy interviewed the victim who said his ex-girlfriend punched him in the face because he had a new girlfriend.

The female suspect told the officer she was trying to fight the new girlfriend but that her ex-boyfriend attempted to stop her. When he did, she said she punched him, the report states. The victim had a mark on his face consistent with what he and the ex-girlfriend explained. She was arrested at 9:15 a.m. without incident. Bail; $3,137.

In other bookings:
— A 35-year-old Washoe Valley woman was arrested Wednesday, 3:50 p.m. in the area of Woodside and Monte Rosa on a misdemeanor warrant issued through Carson City Justice Court, driving on a suspended license and talking on a cell phone while driving. She also had an active warrant for contempt of court issued out of Washoe County. Bail: $1,344.

— A 33-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman was booked into jail Wednesday on two misdemeanor warrants for failure to appear in court, one issued out of Carson City Justice Court and the other at Reno Township. Bail: $1,155.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Thursday night to a small brush fire behind Meeks Lumber in north Carson City.

UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff's Office is investigating a credit card skimmer device discovered Thursday at an East Carson City business.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will host its annual Sheriff’s Night Out at Mills Park from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6. There will be aircrafts, helicopters, law enforcement vehicles, mounted horses, fire engines, giveaways, music, games and more.

A heatwave with the potential to shatter records will settle over Carson City and surrounding counties for the remainder of the week and into next week, bringing prolonged, scorching temperatures above 100 degrees and causing potential strains to the power grid, according to the National Weather Service.

I paused my stride on the sandy slope. Without the monotonous thumping of my boots on the trail, it was spectacularly quiet. There was no babbling stream, airplane rumbling overhead or distant voices of other hikers. For a few moments, not even a bird chirped.

The silence was notable.
