Flash Flood Watch in effect through Friday night for much of the Carson City region
A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Friday evening for Carson City, Lyon, Storey, Douglas and southern Washoe counties, according to the National Weather Service.
Slow moving thunderstorms such as those that moved through the area Tuesday and Wednesday, are capable of producing heavy rainfall in a short amount of time.
The weather service advises these thunderstorms can produce lightning strikes such as the one that touched off the Clear Creek fire, and can produce flash flooding near small creeks and streams. Particularly vulnerable are urban areas and recent burn scars such as the Bison fire in Douglas County.
Heavy rain may lead to rock and mud slides near steep terrain. This may impact travel along Interstate 80, Highways 50 and 395 and state routes 207, 341 and 431.
