Special weather event moving northward, potentially bringing hail, lighting to valleys
The National Weather Service is asking residents in the Markleeville and Woodfords areas to seek shelter as hail and potential lighting is moving into the area as of 3:30 p.m. Friday.
The cell is moving northward and could continue into the Carson Valley.
Be aware of the weather and seek shelter if lighting and hail moves into the area.

DORADO COUNTIES THROUGH 400 PM PDT...
At 314 PM PDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong
thunderstorms 9 miles southeast of Sonora Pass, moving north at 5
mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.
Locations impacted include...
Twin Lakes, Sonora Pass, Woodfords, Grover Hot Springs, Alpine
Village, Junction CA 89 And CA 4, Hope Valley, Junction CA 88 W And
CA 89 N (picketts Junction), Leavitt Meadows, Markleeville, Monitor
Pass, Junction U.S 395 And CA 108 (Sonora Junction), Paynesville,
Indian Creek Reservoir, and Alpine County Airport.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
