Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties meets every other month on the second Thursday at 9am. Hot breakfast and coffee are part of the public meetings.
Guest speaker topics for the August 2024 – February 2025 meetings are as follows:
Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 9am at the Silver Springs Community Center at 2945 Fort Churchill Street, Silver Springs. Guest speakers are from 1) Mothers Against Drunk Driving, which helps educate elementary, middle, and high school students as well as parents on the topics of alcohol, cannabis, and prescription drug use and prevention, and 2) Dementia Friendly Nevada, a statewide coalition aimed at supporting communities in becoming more respectful, educated, supportive, and inclusive of people living with dementia and care partners.
Thursday, October 10, 2024 at 9am at the Silver City School House community center, 385 High Street, Silver City Nevada 89428 (3 miles south of Virginia City). This special event includes book discussion and breakfast with Nevada author Kim Foster, whose book explores food and its relation to systems around addiction, housing, foster care, prisons, etc. Sponsored by Nevada Humanities with local hosts HCC, Silver City Preservation Society, and the Silver City Volunteer Library.
December 12, 2024 at 9am at the Silver Springs Community Center at 2945 Fort Churchill Street, Silver Springs. Guest speakers are from 1) Alzheimer's Association, Northern Nevada. Find out more about the ten signs of Alzheimer's, brain health, myths, and local resources) and 2) Nation’s Finest, which serves veterans throughout Northern Nevada with programs such as the VA's Supportive Services For Veteran Families (SSVF) Program.
February 8, 2025 at 9am at the Silver Springs Community Center at 2945 Fort Churchill Street, Silver Springs. Guest speakers are from 1) Access to Healthcare Northern Nevada and 2) Empowered, a wrap-around care program for pregnant and postpartum women suffering from substance use.
