Carson City Grocery Outlet, FISH team up for Independence from Hunger Food Drive
Carson City's Grocery Outlet is holding a food drive to benefit Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, now through July 31 as part of the companywide Independence from Hunger campaign.
Grocery Outlet has partnered with many non-profits over the years. During the month of July, all non-perishable donations will benefit the FISH food bank.
FISH provides food, clothing, shelter and medical aid to the homeless and hungry within our community, with the objective to provide programs and referrals to families and individuals so that they may become self-sufficient.
During the summer months, many families find it difficult to feed children while school is not in session. Since these families' income is at/or below poverty level, they depend on free or reduced meals provided through each school to insure children receive healthy meals.
Grocery Outlet is offering the consumer an opportunity to assist. The company wide food drive is done annually in July where traditionally local food banks experience the greatest need to serve children who are out of school during the summer. According to the USDA, approximately 48.1 million Americans live in food insecure households, including 15.3 million children.
Please drop by the Grocery Outlet store in Carson City, 1831 North Carson Street, and make a donation toward feeding the children in our community.
Customers can make a difference by visiting the Carson City Grocery Outlet and participating in one of these easy steps:
— Look for specially-marked food items. These are items that each local food agency has identified as "high-need" items. Purchase these products and then place in the collection bin at the front of the store.
— Pick up a pre-made bag that is filled with an assortment of the groceries that have been identified as needed.
— Tell your cashier you want to make a cash donation at the register. Donations will go directly to that store’s local food agency partner, in this case, FISH. Donate $1, $5 or round up your change. At the bottom of your grocery receipt will be a $5 off coupon for the customer to use after the donation.
— Pick up information at a Grocery Outlet store about hunger, food insecurity and local/national resources for people in need. Be informed and willing to help.
The Carson City Grocery Outlet store is independently owned and operated by David and Lynne Cox who are committed to giving back to the local community. Customers can help make a difference by visiting your local Grocery Outlet and participating in the Independence from Hunger food drive. For more information, visit GroceryOutlet.com.
