Nugget Project developers present three visions of new downtown Carson City
The chosen developer of the Carson City Center, also known as the Nugget Project, presented three different options of what the project might look like tonight at the Carson City Community Center. (See the play-by-play notes here.)
The plans presented were best-case scenarios, since the feasibility studies are not yet complete.
The plans all had the same basic pieces that included the library/discovery center, office buildings, retail space and a parking garage.
One item that was included that wasn't formally a part of the original concept was a hotel, estimated to have about 200 rooms.
Project manager for P3 Development Mike Courtney said that the hotel was a part of the project the ownership of the Carson Nugget wanted. "That's the discussions we've had with them," Courtney said.
But he also said that the hotel would not be run by the Nugget, but instead they plan to bring in an experienced hotel management company.
Another item that might have been a surprise to the people following this project was the large amount of residential housing units that are being included in the plans. They range from 60 units all the way up to 150 units. Some of the visuals presented showed "stoop-style" buildings similar to urban areas in the east.
Architect Richard Thompson said that there are plans to try and reuse the arches that were rescued from the old V&T roundhouse, and a tribute to the history of the area.
Renderings of the options were available for viewing in the lobby for the capacity crowd, and there were comment forms for people to fill out to gather feedback.
We will see if we can get some copies of these renderings to post here later.
