Two women were arrested on suspicion of felony possession with intent to sell after officers recovered marijuana, paraphernalia, cash and a firearm following a traffic stop that led to a property search, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Arrested were Megan Haffey, 28, of Carson City and Stephanie Troklus, 24, of Palmdale, Calif. Haffey faces charges of being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, maintaining a drug house, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell within 500 feet of a school, all felonies.
She also faces misdemeanor charges of drug paraphernalia, driving without a valid license, driving without a seatbelt, no proof of insurance, driving without a front license plate, and a warrant for violation of bail conditions. Bail was set at $20,000, and $3,000 for the warrant. She is out on bail, a Carson City sheriff's detention deputy said Sunday.
Troklus faces charges of being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia and not wearing a seatbelt. Bail: $20,000.
According to the arrest report, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that didn’t have a license plate and the occupants were not wearing seat belts. The deputy attempted to make the traffic stop with the suspect’s vehicle stopping in front of a residence in the 500 block of South Richmond. The passenger then exited the vehicle and walked into the front door of the residence, the arrest report states.
The deputy could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver, Haffey, provided expired registration and insurance. She told the deputy she was on Alternative Sentencing for driving without a valid license and drug paraphernalia. She consented to a search of the vehicle. A canine alerted to the vehicle for drugs. Haffey told the deputy he wouldn’t find drugs in the car, the report states.
Deputies then asked if there were any drugs in the house after officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the front door. A deputy asked her if he could search inside the home. Troklus said he couldn’t because she didn’t own the home. Both women then became verbally aggressive and were detained, the report states. The officer suspected that Troklus took the contraband inside the home because the canine had alerted on the vehicle.
A search warrant was applied for a granted through a Carson City judge. During the search, officers recovered an ounce and half of marijuana, scales, cash, baggies and paraphernalia. Inside a purse was a Ruger LCP9 9mm handgun. Both women were convicted felons and were not allowed to have firearms. The home is located approximately 106 feet from an elementary school. Both women were arrested at 6:10 p.m.
