Douglas County hires Jessica Stocking as its new China Spring Youth Camp Director
Douglas County has named Jessica Stocking as the new director of China Spring Youth Camp, bringing with her a rich background in youth services, program development and experience with helping at-risk adolescents.
She replaces long-time China Spring Youth Camp Director Wendy Garrison who announced her retirement in December.
According to a Douglas County news release, Stocking's career has been marked by her dedication to youth services. Prior to joining China Spring Youth Camp and Aurora Pines, she served as the Director of the Western Nevada Regional Youth Center.
Most of her career was spent at The Children’s Cabinet, where she played a crucial role in program development and identifying gaps in community services. Her passion for working with children and her commitment to making a positive impact have been the driving forces behind her career, the news release states.
"I have always had a passion for kids and find this work to be incredibly rewarding," Jessica said. "I am excited to bring my experience and dedication to the director position and continue to support and uplift the youth in our community."
Stocking enjoys spending time outside with her husband, Jeremy, and their three children. Jessica has a busy household, which includes four dogs and a hairless cat.
Douglas County notes the selection process for this position was highly competitive, yielding strong candidates.
China Spring Youth Camp is committed to aiding male and female mid-level offenders aged 12 to 18 in developing essential skills, knowledge, and experiences to promote health, resiliency, and the arrest-progression of problems caused by delinquent behavior, the news release states. The camp provides comprehensive behavioral healthcare services, including support for co-occurring issues, to youth and their families.
Guided by the principles of honor, trust, and accountability, the China Spring Youth Camp philosophy centers on helping at-risk adolescents define their values using the least restrictive means necessary, the release states. The camp provides a structured environment and various programs designed to help these young individuals become productive members of their families and communities.
