Teen dies, two injured in I-580 crash overnight in Carson City
A male teenager died and two teenagers were injured in a single vehicle crash late Tuesday night on I-580 south of Fairview Drive, according to Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division.
Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's office and NHP responded at 11:48 p.m. to the crash in the northbound lane of I-580 near Fairview Drive. The deceased teen was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, said Nevada State Police Sgt. Robert Nivarel.
The two other occupants in the vehicle, a male teenager and female teenager, were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries. The female teenager suffered serious injuries and was flown by Care Flight to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno. The male teenager suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital via ground ambulance.
The roadway at the scene of the crash was closed overnight for the investigation with one northbound lane opening at around 3 a.m.. NHP remains at the scene and should have both lanes open later this morning, said Sgt. Nivarel.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
