Carson City and Lake Tahoe road report: Work begins on last leg of Carson City Freeway

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of June 15-21, 2015. The Nevada Department of Transportation will begin preparation work Monday for the construction of the next phase of the Carson City Freeway.
Specifically, they will begin installation of fencing along the freeway corridor from Fairview Drive down to the Carson Street and Highway 50 west intersection. Activity will be off-street and will not have an impact on traffic.

Work will continue on westbound Fifth Street between Well Way and Pasture Drive due to work on the north side of the median. Some delays are expected.

Work will continue for sidewalk improvements being constructed at the main entrance to Western Nevada College from College Parkway. The entrance to the main parking lot will be closed. Please use caution.

Beginning Monday, June 15, through Thursday, June 18, there will be utility work with closures along Eighth Street from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day. There will be flagger controlled traffic at the following locations with minor delays possible:
— Eighth Street between Carson Street and Minnesota Street.
— Minnesota Street between Sixth Street and Ninth Street.
— Curry Street at the intersection with Eight Street.
— Nevada Street at the intersection with Eight Street.
— Division Street at the intersection with Eight Street.
— Nevada Street at the intersection with Seventh Street.

Due to the Taste of DownTown Carson City event, the following road closures are scheduled to occur on Saturday, June 20, from 1:00 p.m. to midnight:
— Second Street between Carson Street and Curry Street.
— Third Street between Carson Street and Curry Street.
Proctor Street between Carson Street and Curry Street.
— Telegraph Street between Carson Street and Nevada Street.
— Telegraph Street between Carson Street and Plaza Street.
— Curry Street between King Street and Spear Street.
— Proctor Street between Carson Street and Plaza Street (from 10:00 a.m. to midnight).
— Musser Street between Carson Street and Nevada Street (from 3:00 p.m. to midnight).

Though not in Carson City, the Nevada Department of Transportation will be performing roadway maintenance on Highway 50 from SR 341, Virginia City Junction, to Chavez Road in Lyon County. Work will begin Sunday, June 14, and continue through Thursday, June 18, and there will be one lane closed in each direction from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. No delays are expected. According to Caltrans, roadwork in the Lake Tahoe Basin and Sierra this week includes: State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to the "Y" junction with State Route 28 in Tahoe City on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore that will upgrade storm water drainage and treatment systems, add curb and gutter, resurface and realign the road, add new left-turn pockets and widen shoulders on a 9-mile stretch of the highway.

June 14-19: State Route 89 (El Dorado/Placer County) from South Street to Spruce Avenue: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations around the clock from 10 p.m. Sunday to 10 a.m. Friday for paving, excavation and utility work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $20 million water-quality project from 0.1 mile north of the Eagle Falls Sidehill Viaduct No. 5 in Emerald Bay to the Meeks Creek Bridge in Meeks Bay. This project is adding new drainage features, curb and gutter in some locations, and resurfacing a nearly 7-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected this fall.

June 15-19: State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from 1 Ring Road to Bliss Memorial State Park Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday for drainage work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on an $8 million project from Meeks Creek to Wilson Avenue in Tahoma, installing curb and gutter and drainage systems to collect and treat stormwater. The highway will also be resurfaced. Completion is expected this fall.

June 15-18: State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Meeks Creek to Wilson Avenue: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday for roadway excavation.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $25 million project from the "Y" junction with U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe to Cascade Road, north of Camp Richardson. Curb, gutter and sidewalks will be added in the 1.1-mile four-lane section, and the highway will be widened in the two-lane section to Visitor Center Road to provide 4-foot paved shoulders on each side. Drainage systems are also being built and the roadway will be resurfaced.

June 14-19: State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from the "Y" junction with Highway 50 to 12th Street: Northbound and southbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Friday for drainage work

State Route 28 (Placer County): Work continues on Placer County’s $50 million Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project from State Route 267 to Chipmunk Street.

June 15-18: State Route 28 (Placer County) from the junction with State Route 267 to Bear/Brook Street: Eastbound motorists can expect the #1 lane closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday for curb, gutter and sidewalk work. During the same time, westbound motorists can expect the No. 1 lane closed from Coon Street to Chipmunk Street.

State Route 267 (Placer County): Work has begun on a $5.2 million project to grind, pave and make drainage improvements to a nearly seven-mile stretch of State Route 267 from just north of Schaffer Mill Road to Brockway Summit. Completion is expected by the end of September.

June 14-19: State Route 267 (Placer County) from the Nevada County line to Carnelian Bay Avenue: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday for drainage work.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County): Work continues on an $8.4 million project to repave an 11-mile section of State Route 49 from Cool to Coloma. Most of the paving will use cold-in-place recycling in which the existing pavement is ground up and reused and then an asphalt overlay is placed on top of it. Rocks are also being added to some shoulder areas for erosion control. Completion is expected by late July.

June 14-20: State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from Lotus Road to Ranch Creek Circle: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Saturday for pavement work. Motorists can also expect one-way traffic control from Grand Fir Circle to Aaron Cool Drive in Cool from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday for pavement work.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from Sierra Terrace Road to Carnelian Bay: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday for chip sealing.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Cameron Park to Ponderosa Road: Eastbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 5:30 a.m. to noon Sunday for crack sealing.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from the junction with State Route 89 to 3rd Street in South Lake Tahoe: Eastbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures around the clock from 7 a.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Friday for gas line relocation work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Blue Lake Avenue to the Nevada state line: Eastbound motorists can expect the No. 2 lane closed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday for drainage cleaning. Westbound motorists can expect the No. 1 lane closed at various locations from 6 p.m. Monday to 9 a.m. Tuesday and 6 p.m. Tuesday to 9 a.m. Wednesday for grinding and paving.
