Carson City Eagle Scout leads effort to clean up C Hill
Parker Lehmann of Carson City led an effort Saturday morning to clean up weeds and other vegetation around the "C" on C Hill and to move the painted rocks back into their original position.
The local Eagle Scout said repairing the C was at the top of his to-do list as he considered different ideas for his final project.
"I use the trails near C Hill very often," Lehmann said. "When you get up close to the C it doesn't look very well kept and there are huge weeds growing in it."
The condition of C Hill's "C" concerned the 14 year-old Boy Scout so much that he wanted to do something to fix it.
"It has not been painted or maintained in several years," he said. "I thought that if someone could fix it up, it would be much more visible and clean from below."
Not to mention this year's senior graduating class had shifted the rocks around to display "17," a tradition at Carson High School for decades.
So the rocks had to be rearranged back to their original "C" design anyway.
But Lehmann said beautification of the area reflects the pride he has in his community. He wants others to share in that pride, too.
"I feel that after it is done people will be able to appreciate the C more than before," he said.
More than a dozen volunteers assembled behind the Greenhouse Garden Center off Rhodes Street Saturday morning to help Lehmann clean up the "C".
These included his fellow scouts and troop leaders in his local Boy Scout Troop 341.
Community partners also pitched in with Saturday's clean-up effort, including Louie Jones Painting, which provided a gas powered paint machine; Roy Houghton Construction, which helped with applying new paint to the rocks; as well as 3M and the Nevada Department of Transportation which donated paint
Lehmann has worked his way up the rank in the boys scouts for more than three years. Currently a Life rank in the organization, Lehmann has amassed 20 merit badges.
He'll be a high school freshman in the fall.
