Tropical storm plume headed to Western Nevada prompts Flash Flood Watch
The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Flash Flood Watch for much of Western Nevada and the Sierra for Wednesday. This includes, Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties as well as the Lake Tahoe Basin.
A plume of moisture from Tropical Storm Blanca will combine with a potent trough bringing the potential for widespread rain and localized flash flooding to the region, according to the weather service.
The watch runs from Wednesday morning to 11 p.m. Wednesday night. Go here for the announcement.
The tropical nature of the air mass and slow moving storms will lead to efficient rainfall production. A few thunderstorms may be possible as well increasing the flash flood potential in the afternoon and early evening.
The weather service advises areas prone to flooding and debris flows may be near burn scars from previous wildfires and steep terrain.
