Carson City Library's Summer Reading Challenge 2023 theme is With 'Around the World'
Summer signals the return of the annual Carson City Library Summer Reading Challenge starting Saturday, June 17 from 12 to 4 p.m. with a themed kick-off celebration titled, "Around the World.”
This annual reading literacy initiative provides an opportunity for the public to join in the challenge and festivities held at the Carson City Library, located at 900 North Roop St.
The Summer Reading Challenge runs from June 17 to Aug. 12 giving participants ample time to embark on their reading adventures through the summer. This year's theme, "Around the World," is designed to transport participants on a literary journey across the globe exploring different countries and cultures and thereby expanding horizons through the power of books.
The kick-off party taking place June 17 includes a performance by Kantu Inka and Reno Taiko Tsurunokai, showcasing the rich musical traditions of Peru and Japan, respectively. Ryan Wendt, a talented card magician, will perform mind-bending tricks and illusions.
Additionally, the library will bring together carnival-style games suitable for all ages along with hands-on activities and food available from Nevada Nosh Food Truck.
To participate, individuals register online for the Challenge starting the week before the start date through the convenient Beanstack app. Alternatively, sign-ups are available at the Carson City Library. Logging of reading minutes starts June 17 and by registering participants will track their progress and goals. Recognition for top readers are awarded.
