A 4.1 magnitude earthquake shook the sierras Friday morning according to the U.S. Geological Service.

The earthquake originated 8 kilometers south east of Dollar Point, Calif., and began at 8:25 a.m.

With the decline of the Comstock Lode starting in the early 1880s, Nevada was in the middle of an economic depression. The 1880 census showed a population in Carson City of 4229, by 1897 the population had decreased by more than 40 percent.

UPDATE: A pedestrian struck by a vehicle Thursday night on South Carson Street in Carson City near I-580 died of injuries, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. The incident happened shortly before 7 p.m. The identity of the victim has not been released. The incident is under investigation and an arrest has been made. We will update as more information becomes available.

A 29-year-old man was arrested Monday for suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon and gross misdemeanor child endangerment following an incident involving a firearm, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Six years ago, it was determined that without direct intervention, Silver City’s Donovan Mill would crumble and collapse.

That’s when a core group of volunteers began their pursuit of the mill’s restoration, working tirelessly to not only save the historic building from imminent collapse, but to restore it to its former glory for the benefit of the public.

On Friday, October 22, 2021, at approximately 6:06 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol Troopers responded to a single vehicle rollover on SR-208 at Lyon County Mile Marker 13, in Yerington.

Gaming generated revenue from Carson City area casinos was up 7.7 percent in September compared to the same time a year ago, according to figures released Wednesday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board. Carson City area unemployment fell to 3.9 percent in September 2021, down from 4.6 percent in August, according to figures released Tuesday by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
