Man sentenced to prison for January vehicle pursuit with NHP
A man who was found guilty of leading Nevada Highway Patrol troopers on a January pursuit on I-580 and through Washoe Valley was sentenced Tuesday to 2-5 years in prison, officials said.
Tyrone Thomas Preciado Sr. was sentenced in Washoe County 8th District Court by Honorable Judge Barry Breslow. Preciado was found guilty of one count of felony eluding a police officer and received a sentence of 2-5 years within the Nevada Department of Corrections.
On Jan. 19, at around 10 a.m. NHP troopers received a call from a witness about a possible rolling domestic violence call inside a vehicle in the area of I-580 and Moana. The vehicle was described as a red Hyundai sedan. A NHP sergeant located the vehicle going southbound on I-580 and Mt. Rose Highway.
The sergeant initiated a traffic stop using his emergency lights and sirens. The red Hyundai sedan failed to yield and stop for the emergency vehicle and continued south. The pursuit continued southbound on US395 Alt through Washoe Valley.
The vehicle turned onto eastbound Eastlake and got back onto the northbound I-580 on ramp. Due to the danger the driver of the Hyundai posed to the public, the Nevada Highway Patrol Sergeant performed a PIT maneuver causing the red Hyundai to collide with the concrete barrier and come to a stop on the left side of the road.
Preciado Sr. exited the vehicle and fled on foot across both directions of I-580. Troopers chased the man on foot and were able to take him into custody. Two NHP troopers sustained minor cuts from jumping over the barbwire fence. They were treated on scene and released.
