Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report through May 25

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of May 19-25, 2014. Ponderosa Drive has been permanently closed to public traffic south of E. Roland Street. Temporary access will be allowed for emergency vehicles and buses only.
 
There will be a lane shift on Silver Sage Drive between Greenbriar Drive and Tuscarora Way from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Traffic control will be in effect.
 
There will be intermittent lane closures on Clearview Drive between Conte Drive and Gentry Lane due to utility work. Minimal delays are expected.
 
There will be street shoulder work on weekdays at the following locations:
— Silver Sage Drive between Sonoma Street and Colorado Street.
— Woodside Drive between Ladera Drive and Stanton Drive.
— Lakeview Road south of Hobart Road.

In Douglas County, State Route 207 over Kingsbury Grade is closed until Friday. The alternative route is Highway 50 over Spooner Summit.

Traffic traveling from the Carson Valley to Lake Tahoe and Lake Tahoe to Carson Valley that would normally use Kingsbury Grade will need to use the Highway 50 detour. Residents and businesses will be able to access their homes and places of business by detouring via Highway 50. Both emergency and public transportation vehicles, including hotel (both valley and lake side) shuttles, will always have access and will not be required to use a detour.

Construction will resume during the summer months beginning Tuesday, May 27 through Friday, Aug. 29, with Kingsbury Grade open to through traffic, but nighttime construction-related lane closures and delays to be expected, according to NDOT.

The road will be open with one lane in each direction during daytime hours, weekends and all holidays through these summer months. Elsewhere around Lake Tahoe and the Sierra through May 24:

State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $41 million project from Tahoma to Tahoe City on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore that will upgrade storm water drainage and treatment systems, add curbs and gutters, resurface and realign the road and widen shoulders. Sections of the bike trail will also be revamped. Completion is expected in fall 2016.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Wilson Avenue to Tahoe Tavern Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations around the clock from 6 a.m. Monday until 10 a.m. Friday for drainage and utility work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $20 million water-quality project from 0.1 mile north of the Eagle Falls Sidehill Viaduct No. 5 to Meeks Creek Bridge in Meeks Bay. This project will add new drainage features, curb and gutter, and resurface a nearly 7-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected in fall 2015.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Meeks Creek to Silver Tip Drive: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for drainage work.

State Route 28 (Placer County): Work continues on Placer County’s $36.7 million Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project from State Route 267 to Chipmunk Street. The project will install curbs, sidewalks, roundabouts and drainage systems to enhance pedestrian and bicycle mobility, improve safety and provide water-quality improvements. Completion is expected in fall 2015.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from Coon Street to Chipmunk Street: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect the #1 lane closed intermittently around the clock from midnight Sunday until noon Friday for utility work and highway construction.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) in South Lake Tahoe: Work is resuming on a $12.1 million water-quality and roadway improvement project from the "Y" intersection of Highways 50 and 89 to the South Lake Tahoe Airport adding curbs, gutters, sidewalks, new drainage systems and repaving the highway. Completion is expected in fall 2014.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from South Lake Tahoe Airport Road to F Street: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect the # 1 lane and shoulder closed from 9 p.m. Sunday to 10 a.m. Monday and from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday for drainage work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) through Meyers: Work continues on a $15.3 million water-quality project from Johnson Pass Road to Incline Road in Meyers to install new drainage systems, widen shoulders, add bike lanes and restore a section of the exiting bike path.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Johnson Pass Road to Sawmill Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for drainage work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) in Pollock Pines: Work continues on a $7.67 million project to replace the bridge over Sly Park Road. The project will also add sidewalks to both sides of Sly Park Road, curbs, curb ramps and gutters. Completion is expected in November 2014. No traffic-interfering work is scheduled.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on an $18.5 million project by El Dorado County to reconstruct the U.S. Highway 50 ramps to El Dorado Hills Boulevard and Latrobe Road in El Dorado Hills. Completion is expected in fall 2014.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Latrobe Road/El Dorado Hills Boulevard: Eastbound motorists can expect the off-ramp closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Friday and from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday for drainage work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work is under way on a $57 million project by El Dorado County to construct a new overcrossing over U.S. Highway 50, new on- and off-ramps with signalized intersections, and new bicycle and pedestrian facilities at Silva Valley Parkway in El Dorado Hills. Completion is expected in 2016.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Latrobe Road/El Dorado Hills Boulevard to Bass Lake Road: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect a full highway closure from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday and the Latrobe Road/El Dorado Hills Boulevard and Bass Lake Road on-ramps closed from midnight to 8 a.m. Sunday for rock blasting. Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from Latrobe Road/El Dorado Hills Boulevard to the Carson Creek Bridge from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday for bridge work.

SHORT-TERM PROJECTS
State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from Sierra Real Road to China Hill Road in El Dorado: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday for utility work.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from Ryan Drive to Commerce Way near Diamond Springs: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Saturday for electrical work.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from Pedro Hill Road to Meadow View Acres Road in Cool: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for fence work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Center Street to Bedford Avenue in Placerville: Westbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Friday for utility work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at the South Fork of the American River east of White Hall: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday for bridge work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Ski Run Boulevard: Westbound motorists can expect the #2 lane and shoulder closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday for drainage work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Stateline Avenue to Friday Avenue in South Lake Tahoe: Westbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed around the clock until 5 a.m. Thursday for curb and gutter work.

State Route 89 (Placer/Nevada County) from West River Street to Deerfield Drive: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday for utility work.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County) from Penobscot Road to Main Street in Greenwood: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday for utility work.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County) from Traverse Creek Road to Garden Valley Road in Garden Valley: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for highway construction.

SHORT-TERM PROJECTS
State Route 20 (Nevada County) from Idaho-Maryland Road to Brunswick Road: Northbound motorists can expect a full highway closure from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday and Monday. A contractor is scheduled to do falsework removal. A detour will be available.

State Route 20 (Nevada County) from Idaho-Maryland Road to Brunswick Road: Southbound motorists can expect a full highway closure from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Tuesday. A contractor is scheduled to do falsework removal. A detour will be available.

State Route 20 (Nevada County) from Idaho-Maryland Road to Brunswick Road: All motorists can expect a full highway closure from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday. A contractor is scheduled to do falsework removal. A detour will be available.

State Route 49 (El Dorado and Placer County) from State Route 193 in Cool to the Bear River Bridge: Motorists can expect intermittent one-way traffic controls from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. A Caltrans crew is scheduled to do miscellaneous maintenance work.

State Route 49 (Placer County) from Elm Avenue to Lincoln Way: Motorists can expect the north and southbound No. 2 lane closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday. A contractor is scheduled to do utility work.

State Route 49 (Sierra County) from Rocky Rest Campground to Loganville Campground: Motorists can expect one-way traffic controls at various locations from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. A Caltrans crew is scheduled to clean ditches.

Interstate 80 (Nevada and Placer Counties) from State Route 20 to Laing Road: Motorists can expect various lane closures from midnight Monday through 11:30 p.m. Thursday. A contractor is scheduled to do shoulder work.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Alta to Drum Forebay: Motorists can expect the east and westbound No. 2 lanes closed from 5 p.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday. A contractor is scheduled to install k-rail.

State Route 89 (Placer and Nevada Counties) from West River Drive to Deerfield Drive: Motorists can expect the No. 1 lanes closed from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. A contractor is scheduled to do utility work.

Camp GOTR (Girls on the Run) is coming to Carson City for the second year in a row! Camp GOTR will be a week-long, half-day summer camp from 8 AM- 12 PM at the Carson City Community Center the week of August 5th- August 9th.

Girls on the Run Sierras is a character-building program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade operating in the Reno-Tahoe area.

A number of new Junior Park Rangers received their badges as they were sworn in as part of the annual Junior Park Rangers Day in Carson City.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Bob Crowell Boardroom of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.
