Carson City seniors celebrate health in style
The Senior Celebration held Thursday at the Casino Fandango Ballroom in Carson City went off without a hitch with festivities including raffles, a cake walk, live entertainment, medical screenings and more.
21 years ago, the Senior Celebration annual event began, and has expanded into an at-your-pace educational seminar for seniors and their family members, offering information about genetic testing, at-home care, Alzheimer's and volunteering.
More than 70 sponsors set up booths detailing their services and offering prizes of their own, including free rounds of golf and gift baskets. Participants also went home with around 50 cakes from the cake walk, and were entered into a raffle once they visited each booth.
"I am so impressed they have the medical screenings here," said attendee Pam Perez, "especially the genetic testing. I think it's so important for people to get screened."
In addition to screenings, vaccinations were offered to attendees as well, from pneumonia to shingles, flu and tetanus.
The annual Senior Celebration is Northern Nevada's largest health and information fair, held during Older American month in honor of our Nevada seniors.
In addition, the Senior Celebration magazine created by a partnership between Carson Now and Senior Service Network made its debut at the event. You can find the magazine throughout town.
