Lyon County Sheriff's Office: Disabled woman reported missing, endangered found safe

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was contacted Wednesday by the Sacramento Police Department advising that Amber Rupp, who had been missing since April 24, 2021, was found alive and safe in Sacramento, Calif.

Recently, Carson City residents have been contacted by scammers pretending to be the Carson City Sheriff’s Office employees. These scammers will tell the potential victims they have warrants for their arrest or they have missed jury duty.

The scammers will solicit personal information and then demand payment in some form, such as gift cards, cash applications, or bitcoin, to not be arrested.

A 64-year-old transient woman was arrested in the 300 block of N. Curry St. Tuesday afternoon for assault, battery and trespassing, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Plastic litter is a growing problem around the world, and new research shows that the bottom of Lake Tahoe is no exception. In one of the first studies to utilize scuba divers to collect litter from a lakebed, 673 plastic items were counted from just a small fraction of the lake.

UPDATE 1:20PM: A mobile home fire Sunday morning in the 3200 block of Dale Drive caused significant damage throughout the structure, according to Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Kevin Nyberg. There were no injuries. The cause is under investigation.
