The Brewery Art Center to Highlight Nevada’s Paiute History
By Denise Clodjeaux
Explore part of Nevada’s Native American History through the language and the stories of the Walker River Paiute Tribe with Andy Allen on Saturday, May 21st at 2p.m. in Carson City. The performance is part of the Brewery Art Center's “Cultures of Nevada” Matinee Series.
Allen’s captivating stories about his tribe will both entertain and educate. Audience members will also learn some basic Paiute words and phrases. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to experience Nevada’s rich history together.
Andy Allen lives in Schurz, Nev. and travels extensively to keep the language and spirit of the Paiutes alive. He has mesmerized audiences across the state with his own spirit and personality.
As an elder in his community, Andy is looked upon as a classic tradition bearer, one who is intertwined with his intent to share, preserve and teach the Paiute language. It is a rare treat to experience Andy and his associates sharing their linguistic and storytelling traditions.
The performance is in the Maizie Harris Jesse Theatre. Tickets are just $10.00 for General Admission, $7.00 for Students and Seniors and $5.00 for BAC Members.
The Brewery Arts Center is Carson City’s premier performing and visual arts center. The nonprofit, member funded center is committed to presenting and promoting art, arts programming and cultural events to the residents of Carson City and the surrounding area.
