'Maya's Mind' 20-foot art sculpture installed Saturday in the downtown Carson City area

Hello fellow anglers. We have a few things going on in our local area. For anglers that fish Topaz Lake, you have until the end of the month to wet a line. As of October 1st, the lake will be closed until January 1, 2020. There is some speculation into next years fishing season.

According to the police report, two teenagers were arrested in a store parking lot in the 1900 block of N. Carson Street for engaging in a physical altercation while a two-month-old infant between them.

A 19-year-old transient man and an 18-year-old transient woman were booked on child neglect/endangerment and domestic battery first after several concerned citizens called deputies to respond to a fight. The reporting parties stated there was a man and a woman physically fighting in the parking lot and pulling an infant from each other during the fight.

The intersection at Robinson and Saliman is, for the majority of the day, reasonable and quick to get through. However, in the thirty minutes before Carson High School classes begin, and the thirty minutes after school lets out, it is one of the most frustrating intersections in the capital city.

There are nine lanes of traffic that have to navigate the four-way stop signs at this intersection, plus the hundreds of students using all four crosswalks.

On Thursday afternoon, ten minutes prior to school letting out at 2 p.m. and ending at 2:20 p.m., I observed the following:

Dozens of hot rods will roll into Carson City next week for the 9th annual Rockabilly Riot held at Mills Park. The event originally got its start in Reno but will be hosted for the 4th time here in Carson City.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a 92-year-old Carson City woman who died in a vehicle crash Tuesday evening on Highway 50 East and Airport Road.

On Thursday morning, a military convoy led by veterans and military enthusiasts stopped at the Nevada Railroad Museum in Carson City after having already driven 150 miles that morning.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Donna Walden, President of GreenUP!, a nonprofit that has established a green dining district along Carson Street. The district's purpose is to help restaurants reduce all waste streams, with a strong focus on food waste. Accompanying her will be Angela Bullentini Wolf of Gather, who will describe that restaurant's experience implementing green practices.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a suspect allegedly involved in elder exploitation. The suspect used an elderly woman's debit card, made several purchases and withdrew several hundred dollars in cash.

Heading into Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, events around the capital city region include a morning hike at Lake Tahoe, a Healthy Communities meeting in Virginia City, a cross-country convoy of vintage military vehicles that will make a stopover at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, activities at the Carson City Library, book author presentations at the Nevada State Library and Archives and the Brewery Arts Center, food trucks at Mills Park and more. Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol were called Wednesday night to a vehicle crash in the area of Highway 50 East and Lompa Lane.

It was a day like any other when ShaRae Staley woke on August 3 in her home on N. Edmonds Street in Carson City. She received a message from her husband, who she had separated from six weeks previous, that he wanted to come over and make their children breakfast and take them to the park. ShaRae agreed, as any mother would.

When her husband, Cortney Staley, arrived, nothing seemed amiss. He came and made their children breakfast, and she went to work.
