Don't forget Mom: Greenhouse Project Carson City Mother's Day plant sale begins Friday
This weekend, grab mom and the family and come on out to the annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, located on the campus of Carson High School.
Due to the event’s growing popularity, the sale is expanding to both Friday, May 10, 2:30 to 5 p.m. and Saturday, May 11, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Thanks to the wonderful community support we’ve expanded our sale to begin Friday, for convenience,” said Karen Abowd, TGP board president. “And thanks to the work of our manager, Cory King, TGP consistently provides quality, locally adapted plants, that thrive here, and with this beautiful weather finally arrived, people are anxious to get their gardens going.”
The plant sale is a perfect family and educational outing with Full Circle Compost, Monarch Society and others on site offering extensive gardening knowledge and a one-stop experience.
“We encourage collaboration, and events like this allow us to partner with others who can provide gardening tips, information on creating healthy soils, how to plant habitat for our endangered Monarchs and other pollinators, to answer questions or bounce ideas off of,” Abowd said. “It’s one more opportunity to put TGP’s mission of growing, giving and teaching into action.”
The plants offered for sale range from fruits and vegetables to flowers, both perennial and annual varieties ideal for Summer growing.
The sale takes place at Green Central, the name for TGP’s original site on Carson High School’s campus. This designation distinguishes between that site and The Foothill Garden, located on Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center’s campus.
All sales continue TGP’s work of providing agriculture education to students, while providing fresh produce to the community’s food insecure.

Green Central is located at 1111 N. Saliman Road, off East Robinson Street, behind Carson High School.
