Reno Rodeo 100 multi-media project debuts in Carson City Saturday at Governor's Mansion
The Reno Rodeo 100, a multimedia project collecting stories leading up to the 100-year anniversary of the Reno Rodeo, is debuting the first storytelling event this Saturday, May 13 at the Governor’s Mansion in Carson City. Tickets are available for the event, which includes short documentary films, audio stories with slides and live storytellers.
In partnership with Reno Rodeo Foundation and Reno Rodeo Association, The Reno Rodeo 100 project is being created by Jessi LeMay: photographer, maker of short films, and creator of The Folk & The Lore, a live storytelling event hosted by Nevada Museum of Art. Over the next two and a half years, LeMay will collect stories from one hundred years of Reno Rodeo. Stories will be shared at events over the next few years, leading up to the 100-year anniversary.
With funding provided, in part, through a grant with the City of Reno Arts & Culture Commission, this is a community effort and The Reno Rodeo 100 is actively looking for community members to help keep the legacy alive by sharing stories about rodeo, ranching and the cowboy way of life in Northern Nevada.
“We are honored to garner encouragement from the City of Reno in helping with our commitment to capture and share these stories; the project will allow everyone – of all ages – the ability to appreciate the rich culture of our Cowboy Way of Life and to recognize the significant contributions of our deep-rooted Western heritage that continues to shape our Northern Nevadan community,” said Clara Andriola, executive director of the Reno Rodeo Foundation. “It is rewarding to know this project aligns with the City of Reno's vision inn creating a legacy to treasure for years to come.”
Stories can be submitted by calling the hotline at 775-525-1088 with a three minute story synopsis and contact info, or email info@jessilemay.com.
