Winter weather advisory for Carson City; rain and snow possible
An abrupt change in weather for Western Nevada and Carson City has prompted the National Weather Service in Reno to issue a winter advisory for the region.
A fast moving area of low pressure will drop into the region and Sierra tonight, bringing rain and the possibility of one inch of snow to the valley floor, according to the weather service and CarsonWeather.com. Anywhere between 2 to 3 inches is expect in the Lake Tahoe basin, with 3 to 5 inches in the Sierra above 7,000 feet.
A mix of rain and snow will develop north of Reno by midnight and then change to all snow, moving south overnight, according to the weather service. The heaviest snow should fall between 1 and 4 a.m. Monday morning, from Highway 50 north.
Snow amounts vary with 1 to 3 inches in the foothills near Carson City and Reno with up to an inch in town after midnight. A slushy accumulation for wet snow could make for slick roads for the Monday morning commute, according to the weather service.
