Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report for week of May 8-14
Here is the Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report for the week of May 8-14, 2017. Road closures expected at the following locations due to road/utility work. Please use caution:
— Sonoma Street between Saliman Road and Halleck Drive will be closed until Monday at 5:30 p.m.
— Phillips Street just north of Robinson Street will be closed, Monday through Thursday, for about a week
— Sophia Street will be closed between Carson and Plaza Streets, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Lane closures or restrictions expected at the following locations due to road/utility work. Please use caution.
— U.S. 50 at the U.S. 395 intersection will be reduced to one lane in each direction, until further notice, for freeway improvements (travel delays are expected on South Carson Street near the U.S. 50 Spooner junction)
— South Carson Street, north and southbound, between Clear Creek and Snyder Avenues will have single and double lane closures, Monday through Friday, 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
— Airport Road will have single lane closures between College Parkway and U.S. 50, Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
— Carson Street between William and Fifth Streets will have shifted lanes, Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Winnie Lane and Carson Street intersection will be reduced to one lane in each direction, Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Plaza Street between William and Sophia Streets will have the southbound lane closed, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
— Edmonds Drive between Bennett and Snyder Avenues will be reduced to one lane with flaggers, Tuesday and Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
— Edmonds Drive near Gentry Lane with have shifted lanes, Tuesday and Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In the Washoe Valley area, single lane closures and minor travel delays will take place on Franktown Road (State Route 877) in Washoe Valley through early July as the Nevada Department of Transportation finalizes drainage repairs and repaves the roadway. Drivers should anticipate travel delays weekdays between approximately 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. While travel delays will average less than 10 minutes, up to 30-minute delays are possible during major paving work. Periodic weekend lane closures may also take place. One-way traffic with pilot cars will be in place to safely guide motorists through the road work zone.
Around Lake Tahoe, the Nevada Department of Transportation is doing roadwork on State Route 28 in Incline Village. Single lane closures are in effect as NDOT launches the second season of shared-use path construction and highway safety, accessibility and water quality enhancements. Construction will continue through late fall.
Daytime single lane closures will take place on State Route 28 from the southern end of Incline Village to three miles south of Sand Harbor State Park for construction of the shared use path and water quality improvements.
Nighttime single lane closures are planned between Hidden Beach to three miles south of Sand Harbor State Park for construction of water quality and traffic safety improvements. Most of the lane closures will take place Sunday night through Friday at noon, although weekend closures may occur during off-peak season. Motorists should anticipate 20 to 30-minute travel delays.
Elsewhere, the AMGEN Tour of California Breakaway from Heart Disease women’s professional cycling race returns to Lake Tahoe on Thursday, May 11 and Friday, May 12. Stage 1 is scheduled from 10:40 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. and Stage 2 from 10:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Motorists can expect delays at intersections as the 120 cyclists ride through. Caltrans reports the following emergency projects this week: U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): The highway is reduced to one lane in each direction at Bridal Veil Falls for slope repair work.
State Route 89 (Placer County/El Dorado County): Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from the Truckee River Bridge to Silver Creek Campground and from Glenridge Parkway to Wilson Avenue from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for tree removal work.
State Route 193 (El Dorado County): Motorists can expect signalized one-way traffic control about 1 mile north of the junction with State Route 49 in Placerville around the clock for slope repair work.
LONG-TERM PROJECTS: State Route 49 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $22 million project to replace the South Fork American River Bridge in Coloma-Lotus. This project will make seismic improvements, widen the bridge to allow for 8-foot shoulders and sidewalks, and also make roadway improvements to State Route 49. Completion is expected in late 2018 or early 2019.
May 8-12: State Route 49 (El Dorado County) on the South Fork American River Bridge: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for water line relocation work.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work has begun on a $57 million project from the “Y” intersection with State Route 89 to the Trout Creek Bridge in South Lake Tahoe. This project is building new drainage systems to collect and treat stormwater runoff, rebuilding curb, gutter and sidewalks, widening the highway to allow for bike lanes and resurfacing the roadway. Completion is expected in fall 2019.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Dunlap Drive to Tahoe Keys Boulevard: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for drainage work.
State Route 89 (Placer County): Work is set to resume on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to just north of Granlibakken Road in Tahoe City that is upgrading storm water drainage and treatment systems, adding curb and gutter, resurfacing and realigning the road, adding new left-turn pockets and widening shoulders on an 8.5-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected this summer.
State Route 89 (Placer County) from Tallac Street to Sugar Pine Road and from Ward Creek to Pineland Drive: Motorists should expect one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to noon Friday for pavement repair and utility work.
State Route 89 (Placer County): Work has resumed on a $35 million project in Tahoe City to build a new Truckee River bridge east of the Caltrans Maintenance Yard with roundabouts on either end of the realignment, replace the existing Truckee River (Fanny) Bridge, construct a roundabout at the “Wye” intersection and make complete street enhancements to the portion of State Route 89/West Lake Boulevard that will become a local road after project completion, which is expected in 2018.
State Route 89 (Placer County) from SR-89 near the Caltrans Maintenance Yard and on West Lake Boulevard (SR-89) near the Transit Center: Motorists can expect shoulder closures and intermittent one-way traffic control at various locations from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday for utility work.
Among the short-term Caltrans projects: State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from Skyline/Coon Hollow Road to Chapel Street in Placerville: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday for utility work.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Rufus Allen Boulevard to Ski Run Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe: Eastbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday for utility work and westbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday for curb, gutter and sidewalk work.
