Carson City sheriff's arrest log: Four jailed on felony burglary charges

Four people were arrested Sunday on felony burglary and drug charges after two attempted to steal more than $800 worth of merchandise from a Carson City Walmart store, fleeing security officers and then getting into a vehicle occupied by two that had backpacks of new merchandise with tags, ledgers, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Arrested on felony charges were Ashley Dadey, 28, Jessica Sanchez, 23, Priscilla Denise Roches, 28, and Pablo Benito Martinez, 35.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to Walmart at around 4:30 p.m. after learning two women attempted to take a cart full of items out of the store without paying. When confronted by Loss Prevention agents, the women left the cart of items in the parking lot and ran toward College Parkway. As they began to run, a green Chevy Tahoe pulled out of a parking space in front of the East exit doors. The two females who ran were identified as Jessica Sanchez and Ashley Dadey.

The two ran northeast through a casino parking lot in the area of College Parkway and southbound I-580. The green Chevy Tahoe was observed on video surveillance exiting toward Home Depot then going west past a fast food restaurant and exited on Market Street to College Parkway. The truck then proceeded East on College Parkway and stopped in the travel lanes to pick up Sanchez and Dadey, who quickly jumped in the vehicle, the arrest report states.

A deputy conducted a traffic stop on the Chevy Tahoe at the I-580 south onramp. He had the two females exit the vehicle, where Loss Prevent agents identified them. The women were placed into custody.

Two other occupants were in the Chevy Tahoe, the driver, Priscilla Roches, and front passenger Pablo Martinez. A deputy explained to the two what had happened and that he suspected they were involved because they exited the Walmart parking lot when they observed Dadey and Sanchez being pursued by Loss Prevention agents and then picked them up, the arrest report states.

Roches denied any involvement and Martinez didn’t state a single word during the entire incident, including when asked direct questions. Officers asked Roches if they could look in the vehicle for stolen items and contraband and she stated the officers could look inside because she did not steal anything.

In plain view in the backseat of the vehicle were several odd items that looked new in the packages including refrigerant, lithium batteries and tools, the arrest report states. The trunk area of the vehicle had several backpacks. Inside were several items of perfume and clothing that appeared to be new with tags still on them. Another backpack had similar new items as well as a bag full of hypodermic needles and several empty baggies with methamphetamine residue. Also in the backpacks were ledgers that had Walmart addresses on them from Reno, Carson City and Douglas County, including lists of items from each store.

An officer identified more ledgers with product names, prices and store SKU numbers on them. There were pages of theses lists in the ledgers, the arrest report states. The items appeared new in the packaging and were confirmed as Walmart items and SKU tags by Loss Prevention agents.

Roches and Martinez were also placed into custody. All items in the vehicle were taken into evidence. During removal of the items a small digital scale and three hypodermic needles were located in the front passenger floorboard of the vehicle where Martinez was sitting, the arrest report states.

The four were taken to jail and turned over to detention staff. Officers received a citizens arrest form from Loss Prevention, as well as purses and backpacks the suspects had on them during the alleged incident at the store.

Sanchez had a pink and white flowered backpack in her possession. During an inventory of the backpack officers located a glass meth pipe with residue. Dadey had a black purse with her identification card as well as a descriptive ledger of items. Officers also located a small dark colored glass smoking pipe and small baggie with meth residue. Also located in pink and black backpack was another descriptive ledger of items, prices and SKU numbers that had several items in it with Dadey’s name on it, the arrest report states.

The vehicle was impounded and all items were booked into evidence. Walmart retained all items from the original theft incident and all other items were placed into evidence. The amount of items originally taken by Dadey and Sanchez came to $848.32.

Dadey and Sanchez were arrested on charges of burglary, possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Bail: $23,637. Roches was arrested on a single felony burglary charge. Bail: $20,000 and Martinez on a felony burglary charge, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $21,137.

In other arrests:
— A 51-year-old Sparks man was arrested Sunday, 2:20 p.m. at the Walmart store in the 3200 block of Market Street on suspicion of petit larceny. Bail: $352.

— A 36-year-old Mississippi man was arrested Monday, 12:20 a.m. on a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant, issued Sept. 21, 2009 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $394.
