Vegas to Capital City Memorial Run: Nevada law officers in final stretch to Carson City
The 2018 Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Run, which began April 25 in Las Vegas, is making its way to Carson City with runners in their final stride Wednesday along Highway 395 through Douglas County.
The 19th annual run concludes in Carson City where participants will gather Thursday for the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial on the Nevada State Capitol grounds. The program commences at 1 p.m.
Motorists can expect some delays and the runners make their way along a US 395 northbound lane. The purpose of the memorial run is to honor those listed on the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Organizers say the annual event brings public attention to those fallen officers listed on the Memorial and to the dedication and sacrifice made by all Nevada Law Enforcement Officers.
The run is supported by the Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ Police Association and the Nevada Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training, various law enforcement employee associations including rank and file peace officers and deputies.
The 19th annual Memorial Run is organized as a means to bring recognition to National Police Memorial Week and all Nevada law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.
Each leg of the Memorial run represents an Officer listed on the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. As of 2018, 131 names will be on the Memorial, therefore 131 legs make up the weeklong event.
Method of the Memorial Run: Each participant runs specific distance carrying a baton containing the names of the officers on the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Runners are from the ranks of active Nevada peace officers, retired peace officers, and Federal Law Enforcement agencies.
