Comstock terrain challenges riders in annual Virginia City Grand Prix
Nearly a thousand dirt bike racers and hundreds of spectators gather in Virginia City about this time each year to celebrate the sport of motocross, or cross-country dirt bike racing.
The steep hilly terrain and miles of dirt trails around the Comstock make an ideal course for racers.
The annual Virginia City Grand Prix motocross race, organized for the past 17 years by the Virginia City Motorcycle Club, was held this weekend in Nevada's most historic town.
The two-day event featured a full day of racing Saturday and Sunday with awards to follow on the final day of competition.
Sunday's race wrapped up around 1 p.m., its course following trails below the town. The start, finish and pit areas were located at the fairgrounds below E Street.
Casino Fandango in Carson City was this year's title sponsor of the Virginia City Grand Prix.
