Carson City arrests: Man jailed for possessing drugs and bank cards that weren't his

A 30-year-old man was arrested Monday for alleged multiple drug offenses and for being in possession of bank cards that were not his, according to a Carson City sheriff's booking report.

Travis Calvin Gent, listed with a Fallon address, was booked for suspicion of two counts possession of a credit card without owner consent, four counts possession of a dangerous prescription drug without a prescription, one count possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession.

According to the booking report, deputies were in the area of East William and Seely Loop investigating a motor vehicle crash. A deputy located a vehicle parked in the parking lot and attempted to contact the driver, the sole occupant, to see if they had observed the crash.

The occupant, Gent, was hunched forward facing the steering wheel, holding a wallet and appeared to be "on the nod," a common reference to someone who has recently used a controlled substance.

Deputies were able to wake the subject, who identified himself as Gent using an Alaska ID card. The man was disoriented and appeared shocked that deputies were speaking with him. He told officers he was waiting for a friend who had gone to a grocery store.

At the request of deputies, the man was asked to exit the vehicle to speak with officers. Immediately a deputy identified tin foil in plain view while the man exited the vehicle, the arrest report states.

The officer asked the man if he used illegal narcotics. Gent said that he is a recovering heroin user. The man rolled up this sleeve where officers observed a small hematoma (pooling of blood) near the man's AC vein. A deputy asked the man when he last used illegal narcotics. The man said he used heroin intravenously earlier while in Fallon, the arrest report states.

Gent voluntarily gave consent to search him. A deputy immediately located a glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine inside a black sweatshirt he was sitting on. He was arrested. While doing inventory of the man's vehicle, officers had located a heroin kit inside a black pencil holder that contained numerous hypodermic needles, a small black ball inside a clear container that was identified as heroin, and four different types of loose pills inside an additional clear container.

A deputy later used drugs.com to determine all four medications: 8 Xanax, 1 hydrochloride, 1 Alprazolax, and 1 Cyclohydrocloride. All four of the drugs were prescription only.

Additionally in the vehicle officers located two sets of identification and bank cards that did not belong to Gant. The suspect told deputies those sets of identification and bank cards were given to him. Later under Miranda, he told deputies he found both sets at a Reno casino. Total bail amount listed: $23,500.

In other arrests:
— A 27 year old Carson City man, David Garrett Sparkman, was arrested Monday for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and a department of alternative sentencing pre-trail violation, a misdemeanor offense. Bail: $5,500.

— A 35-year-old man was arrested Monday for two misdemeanor probation violation warrants issued out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $6,000.
