Woman sipped juice, put it back on grocery shelf, now held on $10K bail and facing felony drug charge
24-year-old Gardnerville woman was arrested in the 3200 block of Market Street at a local department store for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, petit larceny, and two counts of violating pre-trial conditions.
Rumor Kamille Schilling was take into custody after deputies were dispatched to the store after she allegedly took a drink of some juice without paying and put it back on the shelf.
According to the report, she attempted to conceal the juice by placing it behind an unopened container.
She was also in possession of a purse with clothing inside of it, all with tags attached. She did not have the purse when she entered the store, the report said.
When a manager confronted Schilling about the juice, she left the store with the purse without paying for any of the possessions. She then went to a car, grabbed her phone, and came back inside the store. However, she was still unable to pay for the juice, and had no money on her person or in her vehicle.
The total for all the items including the juice and clothing equaled $37.62.
As she was being taken into custody, the manager pointed out the vehicle she had gone to, and deputies made contact with the male driver. He told deputies he had picked Schilling and another woman off, who he took to a nearby casino before taking Schilling to the store. He said Schilling had several items with her that she placed on the backseat. She went into the store and was inside for a long time, before coming back out and getting her phone and charger. She did not ask him for any money, he said.
Deputies searched the items he said belonged to Schilling, including a purse on the floorboard which contained several needles, which appeared used and one was broken. Inside an eyeglass case deputies located a metal spoon with a white dried substance that resembled methamphetamine. In addition, they recovered a rubber tourniquet, cotton Q-tip, and two hypodermic needles, one of which was loaded with liquid methamphetamine, according to the report.
Deputies spoke to Schilling who was visibly upset and appeared under the influence of a controlled substance. She told deputies she went into the store to kill time, and she hadn’t intended to steal the clothing items but had wanted to show them to a friend. She said she went outside to grab her phone and try to pay using her phone, but it wasn’t working. She told deputies she intended to pay for the juice, but didn’t have any money on her.
